Newcastle United reportedly showed keen interest in Lyon’s Rayan Cherki in the last window, but they didn’t take the necessary steps to carry out his signing.

Earlier this month, Tutto Juve stated the Magpies are still in the picture for the 20-year-old and this was mentioned when discussing Juventus interest in him. It was also said the Ligue 1 side need a ‘interesting offer’ to sanction his sale.

Journalist Ignazio Genuardi took to X, formerly Twitter, to provide a short update on Eddie Howe’s side keeping tabs on the player. He claims the midfielder is ‘notably on Newcastle’s shortlist’ for January.

The France U21 international has a deal lasting until 2025 and has made nine appearances this season.

On Sunday, the Ligue 1 side’s clash against Marseille was postponed, but prior to that there were several claims in France stating that Lyon manager Fabio Grosso had decided to leave Cherki out of the squad.

Genuardi adds that apart from the Frenchman, OGC Nice’s Khéphren Thuram is an option for the Magpies in the winter market.

The journalist claims Newcastle are planning to strengthen their midfield in January, after Sandro Tonali’s suspension, and Cherki and Thuram are included in their target list.

In the summer window, Crystal Palace’s Joachim Andersen was linked to the Tyneside club and Genuardi says he’s still a option for Newcastle to bolster their defence.

Crystal Palace and West Ham United will be given a second shot at Paris Saint Germain striker Hugo Ekitike in the January transfer window as the French giants desperately look to move him on.

That’s according to Foot Mercato, who say an unnamed Premier League side are ‘still very interested’ in the forward and ‘could go on the offensive’ for him in January.

They explain that Ekitike is currently ‘persona non grata’ at PSG, training without any hope of playing after the club made it clear they don’t want him.

He’s not a part of their project moving forwards and Nasser Al-Khelaïfi and Luis Campos did everything they could to get rid at the end of the summer window.

Crystal Palace, West Ham, Lens and even Eintracht Frankfurt ‘surveyed the field’ and considered a move but nothing came to fruition at the end of the window.

It was the latter who looked most likely as PSG tried to include him in the deal for Randal Kolo Muani, but they couldn’t get it over the line and Ekitike was left out in the cold.

He’s ‘patiently biding his time’ and waiting until the January transfer window which will ‘undoubtedly involve’ a departure.

His value has melted away because of his situation but his popularity has not and there is still a market for him, particularly among the clubs looking for a number nine.

Interest is certainly growing in the Premier League where a club ‘whose name has not been leaked’ are ‘still very interested’ in a deal and could make their move.

Foot Mercato refuse to name them, or simply cannot, but given they state both Crystal Palace and West Ham were keen in the summer earlier in their article it’s not a stretch to imagine it is one of them, particularly as it’s later claimed the English club are ‘still very interested’.

That would suggest it was one of the clubs who wanted a deal in the summer and those two were certainly the most linked.

Whether they can now get a deal over the line remains to be seen but the opportunity is there as PSG are desperate to work something out.

Manchester City are expected to try the signing of Paris Saint Germain youngster Warren Zaire-Emery, according to reports.

Sports Zone starts their report by claiming that the 17-year-old could be about to renew his contract with the Ligue 1 side, as there’s an agreement in principle between the parties following initial talks.

Still, that’s not enough to stop the likes of Manchester City and Bayern Munich trying a last blast to get him signed.

It’s said that ‘despite everything’, the German and the English club will be trying to find a deal for his transfer.

PSG are showing ‘total serenity’ while the contract extension isn’t signed, as some details of the agreement are still being discussed.

Zaire-Emery’s contract with them only expires in 2025, so there’s no panic about getting that deal done.

Still, the interest from Manchester City and Bayern Munich could definitely mean a threat to his future in Paris. The youngster is becoming an important player for the club, with five assists in 11 games this season, and is currently valued by Transfermarkt at €50m.

Crystal Palace were one of the clubs that came forward to sign Paris Saint-Germain’s Hugo Ekitiké in the last window.

On deadline day, claims from the French press stated that the Eagles had found an agreement with the striker but the Ligue 1 side weren’t interested in letting him leave on loan.

Fast forward to October and RMC Sport explain what lies ahead for Ekitiké, and they also point out Crystal Palace’s failure to secure his services.

It’s claimed the Paris club rejected loan offers with options to buy, including one from Roy Hodgson’s side, for the 21-year-old in the summer window.

RMC Sport say PSG’s decision to turn down Crystal Palace’s offer is ‘surprising’, especially since their proposal was ‘adequate’ as it included a €35m purchase option.

The French club’s desire was to send him to Eintracht Frankfurt as part of the operation for Randal Kolo Muani but that didn’t happen and the latter arrived at Parc des Princes on deadline day.

It’s said the ‘consequences are disastrous’ for Ekitiké who hasn’t played since coming off the bench against Lorient in August. Taking his current situation into account, RMC Sport indicate he could change clubs in the winter market.

On September 28th, Culture PSG stated Crystal Palace could look at the player in January, and the latest report from RMC Sport may come as a boost for the London club, as long as they are still keen to sign him.

That’s according to Tutto Juve, who mention the Premier League duo when explaining Juventus interest in the 20-year-old. The number of clubs interested in him is growing.

It’s claimed Chelsea and Newcastle, along with the Old Lady and AC Milan are all following the attacking midfielder closely. In addition to this, Atlético Madrid are also in the picture and seem to have already made a move for him.

Tutto Juve state the player could change clubs next summer if the Ligue 1 side were to receive an ‘interesting offer’. The France U21 international has a deal lasting until 2025 and the report says he’s valued at over €25m.

Calciomercato state there are ‘too many’ clubs showing interest in Cherki, and It’s explained that the Serie A side have held talks with intermediaries and Lyon emissaries for the Frenchman.

Chelsea and Newcastle will have to step up their efforts if they want to sign Cherki, who can operate as an attacking midfielder and also on both wings.

Last Friday, we relayed news from Italy that Juventus must anticipate competition from Liverpool in the chase for OGC Nice’s Khéphren Thuram.

This is backed up by Sport Mediaset who then state the Serie A side must ‘beat’ the Reds to sign the 22-year-old.

It’s claimed the Turin club will have to overcome Liverpool to sign the midfielder as the latter are ‘still strongly interested’ in him.

The Merseyside club have added four new midfielders to their squad in the last window but still continue to look at Thuram.

Tutto Juve state the France international is a target for Juventus in January and add it won’t be an easy operation for the Old Lady because of the ‘strong competition’ from Jürgen Klopp’s side.

This, coupled with the Ligue 1 side’s request of between €25m and €30m would make it difficult for Juventus to secure his services.

It’s said Liverpool looked at Thuram in the last window but decided to focus on four other midfielders.

Despite this, the report explains that Klopp is still looking for a midfielder with ‘physical characteristics and a solid defensive base’, and insist Thuram would ‘fit perfectly’ into the German’s system at Liverpool.

Liverpool added four midfielders to their squad in the last window and are looking to further strengthen the same position in the upcoming windows.

Earlier this month, Tutto Juve stated the Reds are ahead of Juventus and other clubs in the race to sign OGC Nice’s Khéphren Thuram.

Liverpool’s interest in the 22-year-old is highlighted by Calciomercato when discussing the Serie A side’s plans for January.

It’s claimed the Turin club have to look for a new midfielder due to off-field issues around Paul Pogba and Nicolò Fagioli, and Thuram has been identified as one of the targets. His profile fits the Old Lady’s requirement but it won’t be easy to sign him.

The report says an offer of ‘at least’ €25-30m is needed to convince the Ligue 1 side. This makes it difficult for Juventus, who will also have to ‘anticipate strong competition’ from both Liverpool and Inter Milan.

With regards to Jürgen Klopp’s side, Calciomercato state they already looked at the player in the summer. Among these three sides, Inter are on pole due to the presence of Thuram’s brother, Marcus, at the San Siro.

Meanwhile, Gazzetta dello Sport journalist Marco Guidi told TV Play, relayed by Tutto Juve, that the Premier League is expected to be Khéphren’s next destination.

When discussing Juve’s chances of signing the Nice star, he said: “It’s very difficult to land Thuram, he’ll probably leave for the Premier League for a prohibitive price.”

Ilan Meslier’s hopes of making it into the senior squad for France may have been handed a boost as the Leeds United man had been ‘pre-selected’ by Didier Deschamps for this international break.

That’s according to L’Equipe, who cover him and Lucas Chevalier today and their potential future in the France set up.

The newspaper explains that the current hierarchy for Les Blues seems to be difficult to shake up as Mike Maignan in shining with AC Milan, Brice Samba has been good for Lens and Alphonse Areola is having a revival at West Ham.

That’s not stopped the younger prospects, namely Leeds keeper Meslier and Chevalier, from ‘trying to show up’ and make their case.

They’ve been working for months to try and prove themselves, with Meslier electing to stay at Leeds and enjoying a solid start to the season in the Championship.

That’s not gone unnoticed and of the younger players pushing through, he and Chevalier are the among the closest to claiming a place in the A team.

Indeed, L’Equipe say that Deschamps had them in his pre-selection for this international break and while they didn’t make the final cut, it does mean they are a step ahead of the competition.

As Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate today held a press conference with the French media, he had some laughs with the local journalists.

That’s because a reporter pointed out that the national team is full of Paris Saint Germain players, and asked the Reds’ centre-back whether there’s lobbying for him to join the Ligue 1 side.

Konate toyed with the question, and then made it clear he’s fully committed to Liverpool right now. The quotes are from RMC Sport.

“I’m not going to answer about what they do! But no, it’s true that I’m a Parisian, but I’m at Liverpool,” said Konate.

Konate was born in Paris, but only really played in France in the early years of his career, when featuring for FC Sochaux. In 2017, he moved to Germany to join RB Leipzig. It was in 2021 that Liverpool bought him for €40m.

Despite this small joke from the French journalist, the defender’s move to Paris Saint Germain has never been a big rumour in the local media, so that shouldn’t be a reason for Reds’ fans to be worried, unless they do believe there’ll be a lobby from national team players for him to make that move.

Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konaté has returned to the France squad this month after missing out on September’s international break due to an injury.

Les Bleus will take on the Netherlands in the European qualifiers before facing Scotland in a friendly tie in the next few days. The clash against Oranje will see the centre-back come up against his Liverpool teammate Virgil van Dijk.

Le Parisien have interviewed the 24-year-old and he’s explained the need to perform well for the club in order to retain his place in the national team. Konaté also insisted that he doesn’t take his place in the France squad for granted.

The newspaper then asked the former RB Leipzig man whether Van Dijk has been his role model, and when responding to that, he agreed but stated he aspires to even greater things.

“There are very few defenders who have managed to have as good a career as him. I learn a lot alongside him. My goal, and he knows it, is to have a better career than him. My No.1 has long been Sergio Ramos,” he said.

Ramos, who’s now at Sevilla, was part of the Real Madrid squad that defeated Liverpool in the Champions League final in 2018. In the same time tie, the Spaniard was involved in an incident which left Reds star Mohamed Salah injured.

The France international was also asked if he’s Raphaël Varane’s successor in the national team.

“Not yet. It’s one of my goals but I’m still far from everything he’s won, his track record, everything Raphaël Varane has achieved,” Konaté explained.
